Now is the time…. to upgrade your R.E.D. to Windows. This document will get you started along the way, and if you have any additional questions just give us a call. We will be booking upgrades in on a 'first-come first-served' basis.

Your upgrade will give you:

Standard Windows printer drivers	Additional controls
Print preview facilities	Cut and paste options
Access to planned developments including;   * A radical new intuitive user interface * Much wider integration with other products * WEB and Internet running	Graphics within form-letters

System Considerations

Is your hardware and system suitable for running R.E.D. Windows? We have a separate technical sheet that outlines what you need, so ask for a copy if you are not sure.

If you are running a single-user program, then you will need to install a Single Seat PERVASIVE SQL V8 Workgroup database engine. This can be installed by yourselves before the upgrade to R.E.D. Windows.

If you are running multi-user then it is essential that your network is running the latest version of the database engine PERVASIVE SQL V8 and that all workstations are set-up to use this too.

If you need to upgrade to PERVASIVE SQL V8 please ask for a quotation for the software as prices are subject to change. You will also require installation of Pervasive on your server and workstations (typically 1 days work £ 695.00 + VAT).

Your DOS programs will continue to run using the new engine and this stage should be completed as a first step on the upgrade path.

R.E.D. Windows Upgrade

The upgrade package for your first R.E.D. Windows Program will include a site-visit that covers:

Installation of the Windows Software onto your server and icons to run the software on the workstations.

Help with setting-up your Windows printers and re-training for your users to help with familiarisation with the new software.

There is a one-off upgrade charge of £ 1,380.00 + VAT to upgrade to R.E.D. Windows software. If you hold a current support contract with R.E.D. you will receive a 20% discount on this and the upgrade price is then reduced to £ 1,104.00 + VAT. This price includes the site-visit described above.

If you are running more than one R.E.D. program, for example Subscriptions and Mailorder OR you run multiple copies of one program (this does not include 'play' copies) then the additional programs or additional licensed copies will be charged as follows;

For each additional program or licensed copy upgrade: £ 768.00 + VAT
Support contract holders' discounted price: £ 615.00 + VAT

Please note that Microsoft Windows support for non-standard paper formats within printer drivers for dot-matrix printers is limited. You may need to consider this when planning to upgrade.

Please note that if you run 3rd party DOS software alongside your DOS R.E.D. programs, such as Quick Address or AFD, it would be advisable to verify this will work with the upgraded Windows software as you may need to upgrade this as well.

Once you are sure your system will be able to run the new software, contact R.E.D. or fill in the quotation form and it will be sent R.E.D. We will verify that you are running the most up-to-date version of the DOS software, and then send you a quotation for the upgrade.
